Walking from Leiden Central railway station

The Hortus botanicus is situated in the historical city centre of Leiden. It’s a 15 minutes’ walk from the Central Station. At the Visitors Centre Leiden, across Central Station, you can ask for a free map of the city and they can give you directions. Walking to the Hortus, you will pass many monuments on the Rapenburg. The green cargo bike stands as a recognisable sign in front of the gate of the Academy Building. Walk under the gate to enter the Hortus.

Please note that parking spaces are limited in the centre of Leiden. We recommend parking your car in a car park just outside the centre.

Car parking in Leiden

Car parking in the centre of Leiden is only available to permit holders or with a €25 day pass, (with the exception of short-term parking, max. 2 hours). Visitors by car can therefore best use the car parks on the edge of the centre.

Haagweg car park

Just outside the city centre, you can park your car at the nearby Haagweg car park. From this car park in Leiden (750 spaces), free shuttle buses will take you to the museum. For the return trip, call to be picked up again: 071 - 512 0071.

Mooring the boat at the Hortus

The Hortus has a jetty on the Witte Singel. You can moor your boat here, but you will need to reserve a berth, mail: hortus@hortus.leidenuniv.nl
