The Hortus botanicus Leiden is a popular place for photo and film shoots. The following guidelines apply to the organisation of these shoots.

Public Relations

It is possible to film and take photographs in the Hortus, for example as part of a TV programme, documentary, newspaper or other kind of medium, free of charge. A number of conditions apply, namely that the Hortus plays a clear role in the subject of the photo or film and that the garden is not just used as a background. It is also possible to interview a staff member about the collection, history, etc. Please contact the communication department of the Hortus at communicatie@hortus.leidenuniv.nl.

Commercial Photo/Film Shoot

Does the Hortus not play a clear role in your photo or film? Or do you want to use the Hortus as a backdrop for photo or film shoots with commercial purposes, such as a branding or fashion shoot? In that case, you must book the shoot in advance with the Public Affairs Department via hortus@hortus.leidenuniv.nl. Costs: €1000.

  • Unannounced photo or film shoots will be refused or charged for afterwards. Prices are including make-up/dressing and guidance by location manager and excluding catering. Photo/film shoots are only possible on weekdays and not in the weekend (summer: daily from 10.00-18.00 and winter: tuesday to Sunday from 10.00-16.00).
  • Please pay attention to the following rules.
