Embrace the seasons and enjoy the beauty of autumn and winter in the Hortus botanicus in Leiden. Discover the beautiful yellows, reds and oranges of autumn, late and early bloomers and find warmth in the Tropical Glasshouses. From November 1 2022 until March 26 2023, you’ll find ten microscopic images of one of the smallest pavement plants: pearlwort, Sagina procumbens. On this page you'll find all our activities during the autumn/winter period.
All autumn/winter activities take place from October 2022 to March 2023, on every second Sunday of the month: October 9, November 13, January 8, February 12, March 12. Joining any of these activities costs 4 euros + your entrance fee, unless stated otherwise. Registration is required.
Discover the Hortus with a tour guide (Dutch spoken). Themes: fungi, winter flavors, water in winter, hortus trees, the first signs of winter. From 11 am -12 pm.
Workshop botanical microscopy, by Rob van Es
Get up close with plants by preparing and photographing plants under the microscope. From 3 – 4 pm.
Grab your sketchbook and your pen, take a stroll through the gardens and glasshouses, draw out your notes and listen to the instructors’ stories about what’s in front of you. From 10:30 – 11:30 am.
Pavement plant safari
Discover the pavements plants surrounding the Hortus. From 1:30 – 2:30 pm.
Playful exercising and reading aloud for young children (0-6 year olds). No registration required, free to join, you only pay entrace free. Childres under 4 enter the garden for free. From 10:15 am – 11:15 am.
